RARE BEATLES ALBUM SOUGHT BY COLLECTORS WORLDWIDE TO BE AUCTIONED BY KANAKARIS 'BUTCHER BLOCK' COVER WAS PURCHASED AT TOWER RECORDS IN 1967 and Bids Open at $20,000
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct 6, 1999 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Kanakaris Communications, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: KKRS) announced that it will offer one of the music world's most sought after items when it auctions a rare Beatles album on the Internet LifeStyle Network portion of its www.KKRS.Net web site.
The Beatles "Butcher Block" cover was originally purchased at Tower Records in Sacramento in 1967 for $2.66. It is worth thousands of dollars today. Kanakaris will set the minimum bid at $20,000 and bids will close on December 20 with the winner announced prior to December 25.
Yesterday & Today was a Beatles album released in the United States but not in the Beatles native England. It consisted largely of songs which Capitol Records had deleted from the American releases of then recent Beatles albums. John, Paul, George and Ringo posed for the cover -- perhaps as an editorial statement against their records being "butchered" -- surrounded with broken dolls and blood. An uproar in the press caused the group to reconsider and produce a new album cover without the dolls and blood.
The earliest copies of the album had the new cover pasted over the original cover. Those covers which were not "soaked off" to reveal the original cover are the rarest of all.
The "Butcher Block" cover to be auctioned by Kanakaris has just one corner lifted slightly to reveal the underlying original cover. It has been held by one owner since its original purchase within a few days of the album's release at Tower Records in Sacramento, CA.
Kanakaris recently opened an auction web site as part of the Internet LifeStyle Network portion of its www.KKRS.Net entertainment web portal.
