Jakarta, April 8, (Bloomberg) Michael T. de guzman, the Bre-X geologist who fell to his death from a helicopter in an apparent suicide last month, had four wives, the daily Jawa Post reported. One of his wives, Susani Mawengkang, 21, said she met de Guzman at his fourty-first birthday party in 1995 on the island of Sulawesi, that they were married the following August after the catholic de Guzman told her he'd converted to Islam and changed his name to ISMAIL DAUD, and that he never mentioned his other wives. de Guzman also has a Moslem wife in the West Javan city of Bogor, a protestant wife in the East Kalimantan city of Samarinda and a catholic wife in the Philippines, Jawa Post said, citing interviews with the wives.
In Indonesia it is illegal for members of different religions to marry, and men are allowed to have as many as four wives.
