Ski, marc, steve, et al -- re: ISPs offering DSL in competition with the local bells and, now, COMS offering retail DSL modems. Last week, I read that USWest has 50,000 ADSL customers and wondered how many BEL has. USWest also offers video to some customers, I understand, and I wondered when BEL would. Then, today I got a massmail notice from PEPCO's joint venture with RCN Corp (RCNC) asking me (and others in WashDC) to use starpower.net as my local, LD, cableTV, and ISP company - kind of the bundle I thought BEL would get to once it digested GTE. There does seem to be a silver lining, however. RCN's website touts the Lucent 5ESS-2000 switch for its DSL service. I seem to recall that WSTL's modem sits on it but can't remember if it's exclusive. All in all, I'm feeling better about having sold my WSTL a few weeks ago; it's getting too complicated for me, and I think steve was right in wondering where the margins would be for WSTL and other suppliers. Now, if I could just kick the habit of reading you guys every day while looking for a re-entry point . . .
