Ken, I suppose so, but there are two different extremes to the 'connection' that can hook you to the PSTN. One, as you mention, is the loop side, requiring of a gateway. And the other is a central component - the directories/data bases and SS7. I think we're getting off the track here, but that's okay, since it forces one to think about the situation. One would also have to take into account the on-board gateway funcionalities of the dial up concentrators, e.g., MultiVoice from LU/ASND, and the 3600's from CSCO, et al, which have voip and ss7 capabilities. When elements such as these combine routing (for the IP component you mentioned) and gatewaying, the situation blurs. I don't know where we're going with this at this point because the question is not defined enough. It's been fun, though... Regards, Frank Coluccio
