Selon Bill Murphy du GATA, il y aurait actuellement environ 10,000 tonnes d'or vendues short, ce qui signifie environ 4 fois la production mondiale annuelle ou l'‚quivalent de 350MM d'onces d'une valeur marchande de plus de 100 milliards au prix de 330. Lui il voit le prix d'‚quilibre entre offre et demande a 600. Ce qui signifie que toutes les compagnies qui se hedgeaient prient maintenant pour que l'or baisse pour se d‚hedger.
