The way I read it is that E was *not* belittling the rear echelons. What she was assailing (and correctly in my opinion) is that RR implied that his duty was as rough in the details (like living conditions) as frontline duty. And for one as smart and worldly as a President ( or Presidential material) that is bad. Misrepresentation.
