re: <KZ, Sorry, Merced was designed for Sdram due to large memory and RAS. SDRAM is better for RAS because ECC can "cover for" any one bad chip with SDRAM? Also chipkill is implementable with SDRAM but not RDRAM? Thanks, Tony>

Yes, almost the entire server world has switched to Sdram/DDr. The only hold out is Compaq/Dec with their 21386-based product. Perhaps that product will go down in history as science fiction. But even Merced, with all the internal Intel pressure they must have gotten couldn't figure out how to do a half-way decent server with Rambus so they designed in Sdram. Chip kill is part of it and now Rambus is saying that they will provide Chip Kill next year. But that won't be enough.

The real story on servers is that there is still non-Intel chip sets in the market. Therefore, users can design in what they want. Let me tell you something -- they want Sdram! Actually anywhere users can make their own choice, they are choosing Sdram -- and next they'll choose DDR-Sdram.
