I knew that scenario stuff would cause some concern. I also recognize that it would be very difficult to pick 50% gainers all the time.

I was just pointing out that I ran the scenario through 10,000 iterations on @RISK software to get an expected outcome. The assumptions were very basic so please don't mock me for posting the info. I truly understand its weaknesses. The point I was trying to make is I should probably lock in some of my 275% gain on V.VPR - and heck to keep you happy Keith I'll even throw it into T.JDX. Your dd has been excellent on that stock and it should easily give me my next 50% gainer. That cover's the first 2 trades right there.

T.JDX should give me a 50% gainer in the next 6 months. Well, that gives plenty of time to tap into your dd abilities for the next hot stock. I'm not talking about catching 50% gainers every day or so here. If I could do that then, I would be one of the market wizards you refer to. I could quit my day job.

What I'm basically trying to do is convince myself that I should lock profits in. But my gut says ride this one out and that is precisely the feeling I have to temper. Unfortunately, I always have the inclination to ride 'this' one out. This cost me dearly. I have to develop a selling stategy and that's where I need your help. I'm trying to understand stop losses but not sure if my discount broker allows them let alone know how to apply them.

Examples: in the last few months.

V.AQU - in at $0.42 rode it to $0.82 - still hold it at $0.22. In the last three weeks alone I cold have sold it at $0.30 twice and bought it back again for $0.22.

V.SIV - in at $0.06 rode it to $0.21 - sold it at $0.10. Plenty of volume to get out earlier.

V.ARP - in at $2.08 sold it at $5.10.

V.SOE - in at $1.13 rode it to $1.65 - stock was halted and ended up dumping it at $0.44.

C.US - this one really chokes me - they whipsawed me right out of the stock. Bought it the same day I closed my V.SOE trade. Ran to $1.25 on the Nas OTC market while the friggin ASE halted it. I did'nt know I could sell it on NAS even though halted on ASE. Stock comes back in morning and trades in $0.70's. I go for lunch and I come back and it's in the $0.40. I sold the next day @ $0.31 for a loss. The next trading day, the stock goes up to $0.60 and proceeds to trade up to $1.80 or something and is now hovering in the $1.30 range. Did I get played there.

V.VIP - in at $0.39 rode it to $1.44 sold it in stages for a $0.67 average price.

T.CM - in at $28.85 rode it to $42.50 and still hold it today @ $29 and change. Collected a few dividends along the way though.

And yes I have had losers - V.GGL, V.TIE, and a quite a few others but the lossess I encountered on these stocks are much less than those I left on the table from not implementing a selling strategy on my winners. I have to take emotion out of my selling strategy and the more I read on these threads, the more I realize I have to learn about stops. Plain and simple.

Help me out here please. How do I pick an exit strategy. The 50% rule is not enough but it does help to lock in profits.

Sorry to ramble on.

TIA for any help on setting stops.

Don't listen to me though. I'm a novice investor trying to learn about selling winners and cutting losses on losers.
