Walt-
Hullo neighbor. Welcome to the thread of health and future
wealth.
*****Off Topic*****
When I was a kid in SC, I wanted to work in the "liberry" when I grew
up; I thought the lady there was a magical figure, one who could divine matters of importance to All Who Stood Before Her. I would stand at the desk and she'd say "That's a nice hat, cowgirl, but where's your horse?"
And I'd look at her in silent awe, because of course, the "little-girl-want-a-horse-fever" was consuming me. She'd give me
the silent follow-me sign and guide me through the
stacks directly to a world of dream fodder. At that
point it was a mystery to me how she knew exactly where all those stories were.
Sometimes I think of her. She sent me a postcard--the first piece
of mail I ever received that wasn't from family--and told me
she had found something I'd like a lot and I should hurry on
over to see her. Yup, she'd gotten in a copy of "King of the Wind,"
one of THE BEST EVER horse stories for young people.

I must have checked it out a zillion times. It was "MY" book...
the All-knowing lady at the desk had gotten it for me and
no one else. (Imagine the afternoon I discovered someone else
had signed it out.)
Anywhooo, years later, I bought the book for my daughter when
she was going through the young girl/horse thing and it's still
among the books in the den. I always think of Mrs. Fairbetter
when I see it there. In fact, I think about her anyway, and the
power she was in my life. A $25-a-week small town librarian, damn!
