Chuck, Re:<P.S.: I would like to hear from process guys why it would take AMD 3 quarters for to go into production if they already have working K7 from the fab. Why so long?>

I'm not a process expert, and I hope you don't mind me responding to your question.

First off, the Cu K7s are from AMD's Research Labs. To commence production at Dresden, they have to go through process transfer, characterization and validation steps. Next, according to the CC reports I have read, Sanders mentioned that K7 initial production in Q2'00 and revenues in H2'00. So, you are actually looking at two quarters before the start of K7 initial production. Also, Fab25 is running at only 80% capacity, and has enough capacity available to meet their Q1'00 K7 units projection and more. I suspect that they may start K6-2+ production at Dresden before K7. I was surprised that no one raised any questions about K6-2+ in the CC.

Goutama
