A note from last night's pre analyst meeting dinner. Most every analyst there was pressing Dell mgmt about the two issue du jour--Taiwan/supply, and the rising cost of components. Regarding the Taiwan issue, management stated that they were working on Taiwan issues, but that it is too early to quantify and thus they probably wouldn't clarify that situation in today's meeting. As far as components go, management was modestly upbeat, stating that not all prices are up as far as components are concerned, and for those that are, Dell continues to have exceptional leverage with those suppliers. At the end of the night last night, it seemed apparent that Dell would run an upbeat meeting today, but that it might lack some of the detail, and thus some uncertainty would remain as far 3Q and 4Q are concerned.
