French publishing force Titus has acquired a 50.1 per cent controlling stake
of Virgin Interactive Entertainment.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, follows Titus? recent $25 million
acquisition of a 57 per cent controlling stake in Interplay, which in turn
owned 43.9 per cent of Virgin.
Eric Caen, president and co-founder of Titus, said the acquisition would
gain the company access to key European territories where it currently lacks
direct sales support, namely the UK, Germany and Spain. He added that
Virgin?s product portfolio would also enable Titus to broaden its
traditionally
family-oriented portfolio into the teenage and adult markets.
Commenting on the agreement, Interplay, joint president of Virgin
Interactive, Peter Bilotta stressed the financial benefits of being so
closely linked to a French company. ?The French stock market is very
buoyant,? he said. ?We may be looking to raise a significant amount of cash
in future.? He added that announcements to this effect were imminent.<<
