REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct 7, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Communication Intelligence Corporation ("CIC")(Nasdaq: CICI), the leading supplier of pen-based software solutions, today announced two new additions to its consumer offerings for 3Com Palm(TM) connected organizers (Nasdaq: COMS). The lead offering is Sign-On(TM), which will allow users to secure their organizer and data by using biometric signature verification to replace the existing password protection system. InkSnap(TM) is a new electronic notetaker that will enable users to take longer handwritten notes by shrinking the ink as they write.
"CIC?s Sign-On is a Palm application developed to provide dynamic signature verification directly on a Palm organizer," said Gabriel Acosta-Lopez, director of platform development services for Palm Computing, a 3Com company. "With the increasing deployment of enterprise level applications that allow users to access and transfer data from their PCs, corporate networks, and the internet, data security has become extremely important. By providing a tool to secure the organizer and its data with a low cost, reliable biometric identifier, CIC has fulfilled a key need for our users."
"The addition of these new product offerings expands our Palm product line to a total of six offerings which we have introduced over the course of the last 14 months," said Robert Williams, VP Consumer Sales for CIC. "We have experienced consistent growth in the area of on-line consumer sales for our Palm products. We anticipate continued success in this market with the introduction of new and innovative products designed to meet the needs of the growing base of over 4 million Palm users."
Sign-On is the first security utility for Palm connected organizers that utilizes biometric signature verification to help protect the user?s data from tampering or theft. Unlike alpha-numeric passwords, that can be guessed or forgotten, Sign-On provides a natural way to log-on to the organizer. This application is the first signature solution to capture, verify and encrypt all the signature data directly on Palm organizers. The Company believes that there is a significant potential for new enterprise applications that could employ this technology for approval of electronic forms, e-commerce or on-line transactions. The Company intends to provide additional applications and tools based on this technology to meet this emerging need.
InkSnap is a powerful tool that was first introduced for the Windows CE platform and is now available on the Palm Computing(R) platform. Many users of the Company?s QuickNotes electronic notetaking application expressed an interest in being able to take longer handwritten notes. InkSnap is the answer to this need, allowing users to take up to three screens of handwritten information per page.
InkSnap and Sign-On are only $19.99 each and are available for purchase electronically directly through CIC and select on-line resellers. As a special introductory offer, CIC is providing a special bundle price of just $39.99 for any three of its top-selling Palm products. The introductory offer is only available at the promotional e-commerce site www.shopcic.com. For additional information on the Company please visit our main site at www.cic.com.
