ATT will always hold talks with other companies, and there will always be continued rumors of mergers and spin-offs. Such talk serves to prolong and confuse the open access issue. It leaves politicians and consumer groups sitting on their hands waiting for an imminent deal. Such a deal makes no sense except for those wanting a short-term pop on the stock. Good deals are made from positions of strength. ATHM is building that strength now at a rate of over 2,000 new customers per day. Why deal with old, fat, complacent AOL when you are young, buff, up&coming ATHM. Unless ATT is so desperate to get out of content that they want to lose money there will be no deal. There will be enough talk of a deal to create doubts in everyone's mind, enough to keep governments inactive, enough to keep OpenNet guessing, but no real deal. The more "patient" Case is, the stronger ATHM gets. ATT is starting and promoting these rumors.
