One of Three Special Awards; Best New Networking/Communications Products To Be Selected By Industry-Wide 'Vote

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1999--The best networking
and communication products making their debut at the dawn of the new
Millennium will be selected for special recognition by thousands of
industry professionals attending ComNet 2000 this January 25-27 in
Washington DC. Hundreds of never-before-seen products and technologies
from many of the 450 companies exhibiting at ComNet 2000 will be vying
for this special honor as part of the industry-renowned New Product
Achievement Awards.

The ComNet New Product Achievement Awards are considered unique.
The finalists are voted on by a wide cross-section of the
computer/communications marketplace after a panel of industry experts
has narrowed the hundreds of entries down to the best of show. This
panel of industry luminaries, including leading analysts, editors,
consultants and users, carefully reviews the entries and selects three
product finalists in each of eight categories. The eight categories
are:

-- Best New Network Management Offering

-- Best New Carrier or WAN Offering

-- Best New LAN or Internetworking Offering

-- Best New Network Infrastructure Offering

-- Best New Wireless Offering

-- Best New Software Offering

-- Best New Internet/Intranet Offering

-- Best New Telephony, Fax or Conferencing Offering.

The 24 finalists are then displayed in a special Showcase area in
the Convention Center's main lobby where some 50,000 attendees
representing end users, service providers, manufacturers, suppliers,
consultants, and other networking and communications professionals
will have the opportunity to view the finalists and see special
product demonstrations on the show floor.

Thousands of these professionals will then make a very informed
decision about what new products they think are the most innovative
and unique. The winners in each category will be announced at the
ComNet Awards Ceremony on Wednesday evening, January 26. The Judges'
Choice Grand Prize, a special selection that the NPAA panel considers
to be the most innovative new offering at the show, will also be
awarded on Wednesday evening.

"For the past nine years the New Product Achievement Awards have
identified and honored scores of outstanding products that have helped
change the face of the networking and communications industry," said
Don Berey, ComNet 2000 Show Director. "What makes these awards
especially meaningful is that they are selected and voted on by the
people whose business they directly impact," Berey added.

As the leading technology conference and exposition for the
converging networking and communication industries, ComNet helps
attendees optimize their enterprise network performance and make
active, strategic use of new public networks. The New Product
Achievement Awards recognizes and salutes the products and companies
empowering those users who are leading the way toward convergence and
beyond.

Info World magazine sponsors the New Product Achievement Awards
and works closely with ComNet to identify the companies and products
that should be considered for recognition. Past winners of this
coveted award include AT&T, Cisco Systems, IBM, Lucent Technologies,
MCI and US Robotics (see attached list of past winners).

Other Prestigious ComNet Awards

The ComNet New Product Achievement Awards will be joined at
ComNet 2000 by two other highly prestigious awards. The Ovations
Awards will be presented for the very first time, while the popular
User Excellence Award is presented at the show every year.

Sponsored by tele.com magazine and ComNet, The Ovations honor
leaders of service provider information by recognizing extraordinary
individual achievements in technology, products and services, as well
as in business practices and legislative policy.

The User Excellence Awards, sponsored by Network World, honor
end-user organizations that have made innovative and effective use of
network technology.

"Industry-leading manufacturers, service providers and end-users
are all celebrated and honored at ComNet," Show Director Berey
emphasized. "ComNet is the only communications networking event that
recognizes excellence and innovation across all three critical
industry segments."
