What is interesting is not so much the color as the principle.

The sub-$500 PC is not so interesting to us consumers any more. "I got a really great deal on a PC" - Yea, well, so did we all. One of those square grey ones right?

As prices of systems drop below $500 the emphasis switches to differentiation on function, even aesthetics. One aspect of this is the attraction of megahertz, not really because we need the speed but just because we like the gofaster label.

What could make a difference to CPU sales as a result of this switch is that dual processor systems will sell like hot cakes when a consumer version of Windows finally supports MP. Wanna come over and put my dual Athlon 1500 through its paces? (On second thoughts, perhaps not!)
