If SI wants to allow peoples sites in a thread header I have no problem with that. I
just don't want to sift through a load of advertisement on SI to get to whats
important to me.

This is probably the most spam-free of the discussion sites. We have members who care too much about their neighborhood to ignore it and cops who are quick to bust the perps. Spam happens, but will never happen to the extent you're talking about on that other site. Yeah, there was that FVSN stuff, but it got vaporized pretty quickly.

This thread is my first read every day.

I never had a problem with it till I started reading the Yahoo ORCL thread. For
every on topic post there seems to be a spam post.

Some time back I went to a thread on the largest competing site to see how the quality compared to the equivalent thread here. It was a thread for a major tech company.

It was worse than I expected. Out of the 100 messages I read, there were fewer than 20 that wouldn't have been deleted if they'd been posted here. About 40 were spam. The other ~40 posts were either non-spam off-topic, personal attacks, or contained vulgarities.

I can't imagine spam ever getting much of a toehold here.
