RE: <The question in each of your points, of course, is, WHEN?!!

I don't mean to be too flippant on this, but we don't know when any of these will be successfully commercialized. We can at least agree on that, can't we? A race is in progress, both among the competing approaches and probably a terminal date by which none of the presently known competitors will be useful.

At least implicit in your post is your acknowledgement that PC133 is a dead end. Thank you for that.>

They will appear as they are needed and when they are ready. The dram people could switch 100% to PC133 today if the chip sets existed. DDR has been sampled by several companies already and is sure to go mass production (probably early) next year. The different steps that I outlined will be staggered over the next two years. Beyond that a new set of steps will occur and I cannot predict them although I could guess but who cares. But the new steps are likely to be in place by the time these new apps that the Rambus people keep insisting everyone will be using in the future actually appear in any wide usage (if they actually do appear).

It is interesting that you attach significance to PC133 being a dead end. Actually I expect that it will still be in production 10 years from now but the headline chip in the PC biz will move to DDR next year. Do you realize that Samsung and some other dram vendors are integrating Sdram and DDR on the same die? Does that tell you anything?

As for being a dead end, what do you think about Coppermine being a dead end? In the same way that 486 was a dead end.
