I wonder if MSFT executives now realize that may need to do something very positive or their is going to be the stock that people will consider as overvalued. Other techs keep going higher in the meantime. Decided that i was too pessimistic on the prospects of the stock in the near future. Now i am starting to believe that it offers downside protection while the possibilities of upside moves is on the increase. There may be a certain amount of catch up left. I just don't think that Maffei will try to predict doom and gloom this earnings release. As a result, MSFT stock will start moving up in a big way. Ahead of the Windows2000 release date, one can expect a big run up. Also think that the DOJ is not only factored in but the worst case scenario may already be priced into the stock. Based upon Judge Jackson's comments in the past, i don't think he will throw the book at the company----at worst there will be a mixed decision. A type of decision that MSFT would not be getting if there was a negotiated settlement. He is well aware of current developments and their effect on the competitive environment. The only big buying opportunity on this stock could be the fact finding by the judge. This will sound worse than it really is. He will be commenting on MSFT's practices and not intrepreting the law. Of course, he will state the obvious----"cut off air supply" type of statements. These may be perceived as negative for MSFT but are not really that important in the final decision. Maybe some investors are waiting for that to start buying aggressively ahead of Windows2k release. I believe this is a great "investment" but not a good trade just yet.
