from wsj: Oracle Software Shrinks Web Pages Oracle Corp., Palo Alto, Calif., plans to unveil software designed to simplify the process of shrinking Web pages for small wireless devices, such as cell phones and handheld computers. Currently, Web site operators and wireless service providers reformat the pages and online content in various ways using a variety of software tools to match the differing technical specifications of each device. 3Com Corp.'s Palm VII handheld is one such device. Oracle designed its Portal-to-Go to serve as a universal translator and says it will work will all devices. The software makes use of the Web language XML and formats pages to be viewed with a browser, the company said. The software, to be available commercially on Nov. 15, is currently being used by Swedish telecommunications company Telia and is in beta testing at other wireless service providers, Oracle said.
