GENEVA, Switzerland, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Optibase, (Nasdaq: OBAS), a leader in broadband digital video networking solutions, today announced that it will unveil its latest video networking platforms, MediaLink and MPEG ComMotion Pro, at Telecom '99, Geneva. MediaLink, formerly known as Clarion, is 'Optibase's new rack mounted plug & play video networking platform incorporating the MPEG ComMotion Pro streaming solution to deliver high-quality digital video streams in real-time over advanced digital networks, including IP and ATM.

MediaLink is a video networking platform running on an embedded operating system that is designed to encode, multiplex, transcode and transmit high-quality live and pre-recorded (from file) video streams in real-time over advanced digital networks. It is ideal for mission critical applications over private and public networks such as the Internet, intranet, virtual private networks as well as real-time uploading to video servers.

Designed for integration into large-scale video, audio and data streaming applications, MediaLink will enable the transmission of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams and is designed to support multiple formats such as MPEG-4 based streams alongside audio-only formats such as MP3.

MPEG ComMotion Pro offers advanced streaming features, such as remote control over the encoding process, low latency, variable bit rate, IP multicast, native ATM support, remote management of transmitting stations and the support of multiple stream encoding from a single PC. These advanced features enable it to meet the needs of a variety of applications. These applications vary from distance learning through business TV to corporate communications. MPEG ComMotion Pro integrates seamlessly with leading video server vendors allowing encoded video feeds can be stored in real-time to a video server for later retrieval.
