I am still a big Microsoft bull, they just can't hold on to all of that money forever.

The biggest advantage of web based office suites is that they are portable. I went to Internet World and demonstrated all of the files on my hardrive for about 50 business development folk on every platform available, without a laptop, CD or floppy - access to the apps and the files took about 15 seconds. They were amazed, and that is what the Internet is about. I got a big internation response from an interview with CNNfn, but the apps were not ready for beta then. This was about the same time that Scott McNeally came out with his announcements. I must admit that he is absolutely on point about the world coming to a networked architecture, but I don't believe in ultra thin clients, they are not necessary when computing power is so inexpensive.

The biggest disadvantage to the Sun solution is that they are engineering it to sell Sun servers instead of supplying the best user experience possible. The load on the server and the network from the ultra thin client experience will be extreme.

AOL is in a prime position to capitalize on this, with the only possible competition being Yahoo and MSN. We all know that although MSN has the best market and technology, MSFT will find it very hard to cannibalize Office revenue.
