I don't know anybody who wanted jury duty. Me, I'd love to be called for jury duty. I'd probably get a peremptory strike (those are discretionary), but you never know. I'm a registered voter, and I could be in the pool, and maybe the other people in the pool would be worse than me, dentists or CIA agents or something. (Plaintiff lawyers don't want educated people on their juries, and defense attorneys don't want blacks, or anyone in a helping profession.) In D.C., there are so many lawyers that they actually do serve on juries, sometimes even judges do if they are from another court.
As for being treated like cattle, there's no excuse for mistreatment, but we aren't supposed to have personal contact, so of course it's going to feel impersonal. |
