On the jobs data: The question is, I believe, What part does the hurricane play in the data? Did it reduce employment temporarily? Was there very little effect?

Since the long term trend reflects tighter employment, until the hurricane question can be answered, it must be assumed that the long term trend is still in force at this time.

The Canadian jobs data, out yesterday, indicated another significant drop in unemployment here to a level commensurate with that of 1990. The trend appears to remain intact in the True North.
