Start IE quicker ...

I never thought about the speed issue of NOT loading a web page when IE, or Netscape, starts, but yes, not waiting for a page to come over the wire does speed the startup.

A few years ago, I created my own home page which I store on my own system. I load this page when IE starts. Since it's just HTML text and stored locally, it seems to load instantly. Over time, I've added stuff to this page (Usually copying bookmarks) and removed stuff I find I don't use.

To make a file on your system your home page, open explorer and click on the desired file to open it. In IE4, click view, or IE5 tools, and select the General tab under Internet Options. In the Home Page box, click the Use Current button.

Another thing: Once you get used to the 'instant' loading of your own page, if it seems slow all of a sudden and for no apparent reason, you know a problem is just around the corner and you can re-boot so it's fixed before it hits.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. I used to use Netscape's browser and this stuff worked for it too. (Nav 3.0)
