True. But they were indispensable. I didn't say that made them "heroes".

It is generally agreed by biographers that Reagan wanted to do the "Jimmy Stewart" thing but that option was not available to him. A military doctor said, with his eyesight, he'd wind up shooting a General. Another doctor cracked, "yeah, and he'd miss".

Many other actors, like Peck and Bogart, did nothing military. I guess they raised funds.
