TI and TDK announcement.

TI just bought TDK's semiconductor unit. this unit has innovative technology in DVD-rom controller. in a few months, TI will be able to offer MPEG DVD-Rom chips in one single chip. this may not be a good outlook for cube. however, cube and TI currently have joint manufacture agreements. cube is entitled to use TI's CD-rom controller technology and integration expertise.

i believe TI's acquisition of TDK is largely due to new development contracts with cube in the DVD-MPEG area. it is hard for a company with the market size of cube to acquire TDK semiconductor. TI's acquisition brings these two technology together (data storing and mpeg video storing), and it should serve in the favor of cube.

as far as foundry relationship with yamaha and tsmc goes. this increased wafer availability implies that demand of mpeg related chips are exploding. it is very positive when cube is seeking more foundry partners.
