Sure. My father-in-law spent most of the war with Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) with Eisenhower, both in London and Paris. He was mustered out a master sergeant, after serving as chief clerk for the intelligence division, and was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service, so crucial was he considered to the operation of SHAEF. He also suffered from having to spend the entire war overseas, and from the Blitz. So much for rear echelon. Anyway, some of his veteran buddies saw more action, some didn't even leave stateside, but they all felt a bond for doing service, with all of its impositions......
