Don't forget that Dr. J said that the Q has a one year lead on the competition.

Dont get me wrong....the two reasons why I think the Q will continue to do well is their lock on IPR for CDMA and their management. This does not mean that there wont be competition in the ASIC business. I continue to believe that the Q has at least a 6 month to a 1 year lead on the ASIC competition (I will, of course, differ to Dr J. on the exact amount <g>). However, I am pretty sure that Qdog is right....when the ITU approves a multi-mode approach to 3G, the Q will have to license on a non-discrimantory manner. This means the doors will be thrown open to TXN, INTC and whoever else sees the billions in profits that will be earned. At the very least this will likely contribute to a decline in the ASP for Q's chips. At worst....Qualcomm will be the best of a half-dozen companies who are providing 3G chips.

My current contrarian view is probably the result of a lack of substantive news from the Q....I probably need to hear a conference call about once every month or two. Hopefully the handset sale will occur soon....this would really allow for a better analysis of the Q, at least for me.
