Can I change the drive letter assignment in fdisk or do I have to wipe D & E clean before I install the second drive? If that's my only choice I'm buyin PMagic.

Drive letters are assigned by the OS..not Fdisk and not Partition Magic. They are assigned by the OS in order as they are found (with some exceptions depending on the OS) As noted in a previous post..first recognized primary Physical drives and then logical drives. NT does things a little different..it will assign letters to drives with formats it does not recognize.

You can affect the drive letter assignments as noted by the way you format your drives.

I assume you are using Win9x? or did you say? You can map drives in NT but you are stuck with standard hard drive letter assignment in Win9x.

I would follow Wizzzzz's procedure but I am not sure you have to make the small unformatted primary on the second drive. I thought you could just make the whole second physical drive a logical drive.

You may be able to do it with Fdisk...I use PM as I find it easier to use than Fdisk...it also has more capability as PM Witch noted. If Fdisk will let you format the second drive as a logical drive it may be all you need.

I format my second (and third and fourth) harddrives as primary drives. I prefer primary drives because I can boot from them. I just let the drive letters do their own thing.
