Speculation:

Perhaps we'll see over the next year or two, a Digital Satellite box with DVD-r in it. It wouldn't be hard to enable/disable recording onto the DVD-r in various circumstances.

Say instead of pay per view, you could just buy a movie from the satellite provider and have it saved to the disk. You would eliminate costs due to the distribution of the physical media.

Hmm. Better think about a Blockbuster short.
