Bill, I agree with the following with a question.

<<... those that speculated suffers gains and losses within
the purview of the market ... possibly lead to new regulations?
... may just set the lease rate for gold at a chilling level,
near the prime, which will wear away the profits.>>

I agree that losses in the gold market as investments, jobs and other
related areas will not be recovered. Also, gains obtains directly
or indirectly will stand for those not identified in any criminal
behavior.

<<which will wear away the profits.>> Question: Whos profit?

<<As to the lawsuits......they are settlement hunts, there is
little chance of a win.>>

There will be winners and losers.

In the money area it will be the law firm of GATA as a winner,
and the money awarded will come from the losers.

The simple fact that the gold "crime" happened over a long period
of time and involved many persons and organizations that joined
the "flow/movement" and had limited or no contact among most of them
can have the effect of a possible weakness in making a case against
the wrong doers, into a strength by exploiting "their" unability
to combine and come together in a solid defense. Expect the GATA law
firm to easily pick off and seperate elements that can support and
eventually prove their brief and expand it.
