It's kind of funny.... I had a friend at work who was always bugging me to tell him about the next "hot stock" idea when I came across it... because he had been hesitant a couple of times and didn't buy when I had given him suggestions in the past. Then a bit over a year ago, I saw the original press release out of ATL regarding the creation of Sonosite. Since we had been working with ATL on another project, and they had given us a briefing on their "upcoming" new handheld units, I told him to jump with both feet. I also mentioned a couple of other stocks... LSI and QCOM.
Of the 3, I think he bought some SONO, but unfortunately he left the company we worked for about 6 months later, and I haven't talked to him since. With the rise in the price, I thought I'd run him down and see if he held onto his shares..., one would think he would be quite pleased with the results so far...
Oh, and by the way... the news release doesn't specifically state that the 180 is going into space, although I imagine that's a future possibility. Medical Operations does a lot of ground based crew assessments at JSC, the Cape, in Russia, and other strange places, so they might be talking about that type of pre- and post-flight support at the moment. I don't think they've manifested a 180 within CHeCS yet, but I could find out. It's kind of interesting that if they do manifest it, there will be at least 2 ultrasound units on orbit on ISS. The Sonosite model would most likely be located in the Crew Health Care System (CHeCS), and a repackaged ATL unit is already manifested for launch in the Human Research Facility (HRF).
