RE: <What am I missing?>

I thought that you were referring to the 166% performance claim. As for whether this ad not being pulled means that Camino is on again, I have no information. I wish it would get on again because I consider these current problems to be a distraction from the long term problems which will eventually cause disruption for Intel/Rambus plans for the PC industry. Currently this thread feels that as soon as Camino is on again then world conquest soon follows. I'd like to get on to the real issues.

I expect that Camino will be on again soon. The only information that comes out says that the problems are limited to 3 RIMM products with rare combinations like 6 Rdrams in the first and third slot and none in the 2nd. I have no information or opinion on whether or not this is true.

But if 2 RIMM systems work right then there are immediately solutions at hand:
1. The Cape Cod motherboard which has two RIMM slots
2. A simple conversion of the Continuity module by installing termination resistors and breaking the traces near the connector and plugging this into Vancouver's 3rd slot.
3. The 840 chip set which has two Rdram channels and can support 2 slots on each.

I think the fact that the solution has not been announced yet must be due to one of two possibilities:
1. They want to be very, very certain that the 2 RIMM products are solid as a rock before announcing.
2. The 2 RIMM solution doesn't work either.

I wish that they'd announce the solution so we can get on with it. It has to come within a few days or weeks or months. I know that this thread will have 500 posts in the first 24 hours and about 400 will be directed at me claiming that I've been proven wrong. But please realize that I never predicted this current problem. In fact I had to apologize to Ali Chan on the AMD or Intel thread because he was claiming that Rambus didn't work at all on a motherboard and I chided him by saying that Dell and others won't have gotten to this point if Rambus didn't work at all. About two days later the announcement was made that it wasn't working in the Dell product.

But my points about Rambus are that it is weak on:
1. Cost
2. Performance
3. Reliability
in a PC product.

None of this has anything to do with the current problem.
