Without a next gen class carrier with rich reserves of fiber and IP savvy, DT (even with a France Telcom in a Global One alliance) is/are hurting big time if they want to compete internationally in the new Internet model. And in this regard, there is no looking back. Maybe sideways for a while, but not back.

And without a North American carrier whose tentacles reach around the globe (or a comparable carrier with heavy presence in the US... but I can't think of any right now), particularly, they will be in bad shape. Already, they are losing large amounts of business to companies who have yet to reach positive EBITDAs, companies whose names were unheard of, as recently as one or two years ago.

This is all very amazing to me, and quite telling of the shift that is underway.
