John Chambers would be the first to agree with you, sw. That's why Cisco isn't sitting back and enjoying their success. I have been selling to them full time for most of this year, and I can assure you that there is no complacency in their organization. To the contrary, their sense of urgency borders on panic (which makes my life pretty stressful <g>).

Lucent is not Cisco's only challenger. Don't discount Nortel, with their wonderful arsenal of optical tools, or Juniper, or Extreme Networks. But as a Gorilla gamer, despite the many threats to their continued dominance, I find Cisco to be the only valid play in the Networking sector, which I feel is second only to the Wireless sector as the most likely area to find obscene appreciation over the next few years.
