China Leads Asia In Domain Name Registrations, from RB....
Newspaper (9/30/1999) China has leapfrogged ahead of Japan as the Asian nation with the highest number of domain name registrations, the Sept. 29 Hua Sheng Bao (Hua Sheng Overseas Chinese Newspaper) reported.
China's total number of domain names is more than 70,000, according to a report published after the first annual Asian Partners meeting organized by Network Solutions, the U.S.-based domain name registration service.
In addition to pushing past Japan, China now ranks fifth in the world in term of the total number of registered domain names, the newspaper said.
The newspaper also reported that domain name regulators in China have "returned" nearly 200 domain names that were improperly registered by "Western speculators" to their lawful owners.
Among the 200 returned domains are the following: Haier Group, HiSense, Konka, YaDu Science and Technology Company Limited, Beijing Tong Ren Tang, Wahaha, Chunlan, Smart Garments, Luzhou Laojiao, China National Chemicals Import and Export Corporation (Sinochem), China National Foreign Trade Transportation Corporation (Sinotrans), North Industries (Norinco), China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec), and China Hengdian Group.
