I was thinking of planting dwarf apples, they have developed root stock that doesn't let the tree grow very tall. Actually thinking about espaliering fruit trees on wire lines, that's what commercial growers do now, apples, pears and peaches, not sure if you can espalier peaches, but you can espalier apples and pears. I definely want cherries, too, and am reading about cherries that grow on bushes, I want pie cherries, and eating cherries, too. As for nuts, don't know what grows around here other than walnuts and filberts (hazelnuts). I am afraid of walnut trees, apparently they kill most things that grow under them. My favorite nuts are pecans and almonds, I don't think they grow here. But I do like hazelnuts in cooking. And will try a fig tree, Brown Turkey is what Jefferson grew, although I prefer Celeste, that might need warmer winters. And blackberries, raspberries, and of course in the summer tomatoes. Oh, and grapes, Virginia is a good place to grow grapes.
