who is the naked one here?

>>In the story, one (1) boy, and one boy only speaks out about the fact that the king is naked. For me that was Scott McNealy. <<

jc, did you know that msft had $1.8 billion of investment income in fiscal 1999 to go along with its $10 billion of operating income? Hark,I hear someone ask, what of sun.com pray tell? well, the "fully clothed" sun.com had operating income of $1.5 billion. So the naked msft had more INVESTMENT income than sun.com has in operating income. Ever read the NAKED AND THE DEAD jc? You didn't know that did you jc? How could you know? That's FINANCIAL STUFF, and we all know that DOESN"T matter. These days, all you need do is pick out a "way cool" company and ride it.

>>You've already lost. M$ has lost<<

msft also has $14.4 billion of investments that include stakes in comcast, worldcom, nextel, and Att?and the fully clothed sun.com, well, doesn't. In fact, if you want to get a load of a REALLY PARANOID sounding hans christen anderson, check out the latest fortune magazine ( does your card carrying status allow a visit to a capitalist rag jc?)This does NOT sound like the ceo of a company ready to dispatch the naked king.

If this is LOSING, who the heck wants to win JC?

here is another tid bit jc. I know, I know, this has to be ARCANE stuff for you, i mean numbers and all. but try and bear with me. you can go back to trying to predict the .com future in a minute.

bricks and mortar: msft, the naked $20 billion in sales msft, spent all of $583 million for new plant and equipment. sun.com, on the other hand spent over $739 million on "real assets." Strange for a company with a little over half the annual revenues of msft, to be spending more on buildings and factories and the like.

>>Microsoft isn't even in the story! The story is UNIX. Perhaps it always has been<<

way cool comment. but it doesn't jive with the FACTS. I realize that, being a card carrying member of the pacifica radio network, that FACTS are a foreign concept, but again, stay with me here. Msft grew it's revenues 29% last fiscal year ( and they don't sell a lick of unix!).OTOH, sun.com, the manage by press release stalwart, grew it's OWN top line all of 20%. So, the not even in the "story" msft posted 45% greater top line growth than did the "real deal" unix sellin' sun.com. Imagine. Doesn't msft, the WORLD"S MOST VALUABLE COMPANY, know it is not even "in the story?. That UNIX has "always been" the story?

jc, pardon the "real world" intrusion here. I know this fact laden post teeeming with financial minutia may disrupt your daily "rythmn" of conceptual thinking about what a computer may look like in four years. again, all apologies.

keep in mind they WON"T tell you ANY of this on kpfa. may i suggest cracking open an annual report or two? what are they? you know that intrusive "paper" thing you get each year from sun.com that goes straight to the recycle bin.

glad to be a "naturalist..."
