Vyvx Advertising Distribution Services Builds New Tulsa Operations Facility
Selects Sony as Major Supplier, Integrator
TULSA, Okla., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Vyvx Advertising Distribution Services, the leading distributor of spot television commercials, is constructing a state-of-the-art operations center in Tulsa as the hub of a nationwide digital video store-and-forward network. When it opens in June, the center will transmit commercials across the nation to nearly 600 broadcast and cable stations that are currently installing new digital receivers.
"Our new Technical Operations Center is the on-ramp to the entire Vyvx electronic video distribution network. It's the command control center for managing the entire distribution process," said Bunker Sessions, director and general manager of Vyvx Advertising Distribution Services. The center will support simultaneous fiber-optic and satellite feeds, connecting with Vyvx's 11,000-mile U.S. fiber-optic network, five domestic teleports and leased satellite capacity.
The facility will feature a full range of hybrid analog and digital capabilities, including transmission, quality control, content preparation, closed caption encoding and archiving. In addition to advertising distribution, future applications include cable services, syndication distribution, distance learning, and business television.
Vyvx Advertising Distribution Services has selected Sony Electronics Inc. as the major supplier and integrator for the new digital facility. Sony will provide turnkey design and engineering services using its family of video storage, transmission and automation technologies as the system backbone. Sony's new MPEG-2 4:2:2 SX format will be fully interfaced with the Vyvx fiber-optic and satellite networks to complement its digital broadcast transmission system.
Vyvx's satellite and fiber-optic video transmission services are rapidly expanding since the acquisition of Cycle Sat, Inc. in November 1996 and MGS Services in January 1997. With their consolidation into a new organization known as Vyvx Advertising Distribution Services, Vyvx serves about one-third of the national advertising distribution market.
"The Technical Operations Center in Tulsa and the digital upgrade at stations throughout the country make Vyvx the best way for advertisers and their agencies to move TV and radio spots instantly from production studios to top broadcast stations in every major market," Sessions concluded.
