Great educational article. Among other things, it addresses the concerns I have had about error rates due to weather..

.... What about error rates? The radio links engineered with forward-error correction deliver error rates comparable to wireline or fiber connections. As for degradation of service due to rain or snow, carriers take this into account, using the maximum reliable link for that particular geographic area. How about system reliability? Vendors claim 99.995 percent to 99.997 percent for their equipment. Bottom line: Aside from possible startup glitches, reliability is very high.
