John; Peter Lynch would be proud of me as well. I'm just back from an interactive guide shopping trip. I couldn't find one either and the sales people were pretty hostile.

Maybe I'm just not used the City, anyway I have the feeling that we may be at the front end of a licensing tornado, much like Rambus but still way on the wrong side of the chasm.

When you consider that guide revenue is >2% of the yet to be created New Gemstars revenues. It makes me nervous.

Could we consider it across the chasm when the guides hit 5 million and Madison Ave is willing to advertise on them?
Until they produce revenue it just a licensing thing.

I think the sales peoples problem may have stemmed from compatibility problems. ie they are not a sales aid because they probably wont work when you hook it up at home. Better to count on whatever the satellite co. or cable co. provides.

Only 1 of 5 big CE stores had a web TV setup that worked, it was kind of fun and the salesmans demo was a quote of EMC, so I pulled up Q's chart for him. you gotta love it, anyway the web TV was pretty clunky and nobody could get a guide to work on it. Also the picture qualty was just awful on a 27"? Proscan TV. It looked as if you need at least a 27" screen for the advertising to be effective. Probably larger.

Just don't know
Doug
