[NB99.39-6] Kazakhstan's uranium output is expected to increase by 37% this year
compared with 1998, according to state producer Kazatomprom. The growth will come
from production increases at the Stepnoye and Tsentralnoye operations. Further expansion
is expected in 2000 when three new mines developed in conjunction with Cameco of
Canada and COGEMA of France start up. (Mining Journal, 24 September, p239)
