You are right about that I'm sure. Dont know if anyone is actually doing it yet. However I think the solution will be the same as cable: run fiber closer to the homes.

Thing is that these efforts (done with amplifiers or not) will undermine DSL's major advantage: that it requires little "in the field" efforts.

Everyone knows that the solution is eventually fiber. I think that whoever runs fiber deeper into neighborhoods (without going broke in the process) the fastest will win in the long term. So far the RBOC's have in general been pretty hesistant to do that while the MSO's have been in general more agressive.
