Jesus expects us to place Him first in our lives. By so doing, He makes us the best parents, spouses, family members, etc that we can be. God certainly expects us to take good care of our families. There are numerous passages that so direct us. A good starting point would be Ephesians 5:22-33 and 6:1-4.
