MC, somewhere in the bible, and I don't remember where because I am not one to memorize chapter and verse, it says that man should provide for his family first, and then proceed to give to the poor. Perhaps, one of the learned ones will remember this concept and give the location in the Bible. If one were to give very thing he had away or sell all his goods and give to the poor, his good deeds would number one and one only because he would no longer have the means to carry on any charity work.
