<<<Resellers up in arms over Sun's direct Web strategy >>>
It aint nice to confuse people. When I glance at a free or
$499 computer ad I cannot figure the total cost. Or what the difference is between the ten models produced by one company.
Or whether the ISP offered is accessible in my area, or when the refund will arrive (supposedly within a few months)
When buying a Dell laptop only two models available (
more later maybe). Clear cut distinction, and each will be
high rated in the industry.
In dealing with the vast variety offered on the Web,
am convinced simplicity of presentation will win the day.
Especially when dealing with technologically complex items
Now those Sun resellers are going to be suspicious, are they
getting the same 'cut' as others if they buy ten items, or 100 items? Are they being treated equally on shipment or availability of
scarce items? What kind of a deal are their competitors getting?
To put it plainly, Dell has, and will, make mincemeat of
companies like CPQ who try to confuse the public with indecipherable
ads. There is room for that, as many love to seek out what appears to be a bargain. But the overall result is that Dell's reputation
will continue to grow as the most trusted producer.
