Just got rid of one stress and walked into another, huh? It is a wonderful place to live. And it sounds like one reason for a move is to be closer to the bay, but another is to have a little house with a yard. If you're where you want to be for a long time, don't let anyone scare you off from a house if you can swing it. You can handle it. And if you don't already know how to do simple plumbing (leaks, replacing p-traps, etc.) I bet you could learn just fine. And other basic home repairs with it. If you enjoy a house and yard enough, a larger mortgage could partly be paid for by coming out of *entertainment* money. A house can be entertainment in itself if you like fixing it up and working in the yard.
