Fred, I agree with you and Moore's Law is an imposing factor, when it reaches the limit then what happens, so far
AMAT has not indicated they see the limit


Is this a chicken or egg thing? I mean, who sees limits or barriers first, the chip companies or the chip equipment companies? It's a combination most likely. Until the recent article from the Intel researcher, talk had been "business as usual" in geometry shrinking until something like 2010 when CMOS runs out of gas (at 0.08, or was it 0.03 micron?) and revolutionary technologies like quantum electronics need to come in and take over. These predictions are extremely cloudy of course. The Intel "confessional" is a change in outlook.
