Here is a report on disk drive pricing.

Price reductions at distributors were steep for disk drives in the range between 11 gb and 21 gb during the first week of the quarter. Reductions were fairly modest in other capacity ranges.

Price reductions maintained the same trend as last quarter. The 55 drives sampled with capacities less than 11 gb dropped at a monthly rate of 3.6%. The 40 drives sampled with capacities between 11 gb and 21 gb dropped 15.6%. The 12 drives sampled with capacities greater than 21 gb dropped at a monthly rate of 0.4%. The 50 SCSI (likely enterprise) drives dropped at a monthly rate of 1.2%. I consider price drops of 5% per month as normal over the last few years and 3.5% as healthy.
